Supporting better conversations about mental health and neurodiversity at work and in education

Scotland’s Mental Health First Aid

Accredited by Public Health Scotland

We know that it’s okay not to be okay and many people do want to ask for help when they are struggling… however, to have a positive experience and access appropriate support requires peers and colleagues to be equipped with the right skills and language.

By engaging in a mental health first aid course you will learn:

  • How to recognise the signs of mental health problems.

  • How to provide initial help.

  • How to guide a person to appropriate help.

  • How to ask about suicide.

The course includes:
• Guidance on being a Mental Health First Aider.
• Attitudes to mental health issues.
• Equalities.
• The recovery message.
• The impact of substance use on mental health.
• Introduction to suicide intervention.
• Listening skills.
• Understanding depression.
• How to offer first aid to someone experiencing depression.
• Understanding anxiety.
• How to offer first aid to someone experiencing anxiety.
• Understanding psychosis.
• How to offer first aid to someone experiencing a psychotic episode.

Note: Mental Health First Aid works best when organisations also have a clear safeguarding and escalation pathway, a simple recording procedure and managers and HR teams confident in responding to mental health concerns. If your organisation is still developing these areas, I can also support with an MHFA implementation package or manager training.

MHFA Follow-On and Network Support

The MHFA Refresher course gives trained Mental Health First Aiders the chance to update their knowledge, revisit key tools, and practice applying them in real-life scenarios. You’ll leave feeling more prepared to spot the signs of poor mental health, support colleagues effectively, and look after your own wellbeing too.

  • Accredited expertise in psychological safety.

  • Lived experience of mental health recovery and late-diagnosed neurodivergence.

I understand - professionally and personally - what happens when high-performing people struggle silently and support comes too late. I believe most people want to do the right thing – they just need to understand how to do that.

‘Lynn facilitated an in-person psychological safety session at my workplace, which the entire team attended. As a very small company, team cohesion is crucial to our success. Lynn was an excellent facilitator, making it easier for us to have some tough conversations about our workplace. Her approach created a comfortable and open environment, allowing us to address important issues and improve our team dynamics. We all left the session feeling more connected and understood, which will undoubtedly benefit our collaboration moving forward. Highly recommend Lynn for any team looking to enhance their psychological safety and communication.’
